A film that I saw is called “Dogville”, a movie of the director Lars von Trier that is part of a trilogy called “USA- Land of Opportunities”. This is a drama film recorded in 2003. I saw this movie 2 years ago, in my house in the morning. I remembered that my father saw it when I was in 8th grade, and he commented me that the stage of “Dogville” is similar to a stage of theater and the house and all the buildings of the town where developed the plot was drawn in the floor of the stage with something similar to a piece of chalk. I was so interested with the description that my father gives to me, so when I have the choice, I saw it.
The principal character of the story is Grace (Nicole Kidman) that arrives to this town run away from gangsters that wants to “kill her”. She stays in the town because another character of the movie (Tom), assures her that the mountains are difficult to past through.  Tom recommended to Grace that she can do chores for the people and this is the way that she begins to know the people that live in Dogville. Through the nine chapters and one prologue that is divided the film, the relation of Grace and the people will make complicated.
I love this film in a different ways: I love the presence of a narrator, I love the episodes, I love the ending, I love the music, the stage, the director, the story, etc.
Finally, I have to say that I enjoyed this film because is a song to the “American dream” and all the opportunities that it represents to all the people of the world… How the director shows that? Simple: He recorded the miseries of the human being and he puts it together in an extraordinary film.

I was thinking about a present I received for a long time because I don’t remember an important present in my life because my parents gave to me things that I really need but not like a “present”. So, the presents I received were things without a sentimental value in the time, only like funny things or useful things. I think that this vision of the presents that I received is because I don’t like the present in general, because I think that the feelings can be expressed of a million of alternative ways. However, the exceptions to this were a “rollers” that my parents gave to me when I was 8 years old (12 years ago!). I remembered that I ask to my father that learned to me, and he tells me:” I don’t know, learn alone”. That is the reason why I took my rollers and began to train me. Nobody told me that the sensation to skate in rollers was amazing, like if your heart was full of happiness. I can say that the sensation that I felt is the reason why I liked so much my rollers.
I don’t remember what happens to my rollers… Maybe I throw them in the garbage… I don’t know why, but I do that with the things that become monotonous in my life.

Hi Everyone. Today I have to talk you about a friend of mine (I don’t like the idea to share this kind of personal things, but I have to do it anyway for the English class).
I want to talk to you about Diana, my best friend. She is an ex-classmate of my high school and I know her since kindergarten. But we became friends since 7th grade. We discovered that we lived near of each other, so we begin to go to the school together and since then, no one can stop our friendship. We don’t have a lot of things in common; in fact, the only thing in common that we have is that we are women hahaha.  I love her, she is so different to me and that’s why I appreciate her so much.
Today Diana is studying Electric Civil Engineering in Valparaíso. Her career involved a lot of time of studies, and that is the mainly reason why we don’t see each other frequently. Even, this year I couldn’t go to her birthday. I was so ashamed, and I called her to ask apologize.
I really hope that for these national holidays she visits me in Vallenar. I miss her so much.

Hi everyone! Today I want to share with you two short films that I found three years ago, when I was in High School.
The first video, “Alma”, is a short film realized by Rodrigo Blaas, animator of Pixar, and is a short film that has won some different prize in festivals. I like this short film because relate a story that has a symbolism and it signify more that you can see to “simple view”. Alma is a story about a girl that wants a doll that she found in a toy shop (a creepy toy shop). This doll is similar to the girl, and makes that she wants her more. When she tries to get the doll, suddenly she turns into the doll, and she begins to be the doll.
I didn’t found this video but my brother found it through a friend of the university. My brother shows me the video in winter vacations 3 years ago, and I was shocked for 2 weeks thinking about that. The link video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw0uORumRts

The next video is “Reach”, a short film too. This is a short film of Luke Randall that shows us how a robot connected to the computer, tries to go away from the room when he sees a bird in a tree trough the window. He tries and tries, but the cable that gives to him the necessary energy to make him alive, it disconnect of the computer and the little robot “sleeps” again. I like this video because it doesn’t have a happy end. Maybe is a pessimistic video, but I like because is real. Many times you want to get something but you can’t because some many factors, that are independent of you, don’t permit that you can REACH that thing.
I remember that I found this video 3 years ago searching some videos after see Alma. With this video I developed my short films mania (animated short films, to be sincere). The link of the video is here:

About Anthropology

Paulina's Original Version
Hello everybody

I decided to study anthropology because this discipline helps people. From the culture perspective, anthropology tries to understand and find the causes of people behavior. Anthropology is, at the end, to study an “other” whose definition is to be different from the self. This “other” may be an ethnic group, a social movement, even a band of rock.

An important thing is that anthropology isn’t exclusive to anyone, because it studies every single one and let us be closer to different cultures and lifestyles to be able to understand and accept them. For this purpose, the essential tool an anthropologist must have is to be able to look at this “other” without a cultural and disciplinary slant. Anthropologist must be able to study this other, not looking at it as an exotic other, but like a different from us “other” but at the same time as an equal that deserves respect.

The most beautiful thing about of career is that we learn to know about us as a culture by studying those who are different. It helps to have an open mind about how are the people in the world, and to be more tolerant.

One of the most important topics and that I love the most is social history. The  social history studied by the concept of culture helps understand the social movements and popular groups of our times. Social history is essential to anthropology because helps to understand this groups conformation to help them later on their social and emotional development. One of the professionals that I admire and teaches about this is Daniel Fauré Polloni. He dedicates to study this groups and help’s by the popular teaching to make them up socially and politically to be able to confront difficulties that capitalism represent in our country.

To finish, I have to add that anyone of us can do anthropology. Most important thing is that when we meet the “other” we must be capable of put us in their place to really understand them.

That’s all, I hope you’re fine.

Hello everybody !

Well, today I’m gonna talk to you about some kind of things I would like to learn.
I have to say that when I was a little child I played piano. I was so happy playing piano, I don’t know why I stopped that… Ok, I know. When I completed 1 year of my course of piano, my teacher told me that he wanted to talk with my dad, so I told to my father. I waited one day, so nervous, thinking about what they had talking. I remembered that my father said to me that I had to decide between continue my studies of piano or left them. I asked “why”, of curse, and he said me that my teacher’s piano said to him that I was really good playing piano, and he wanted that I travelled to Santiago to continue my studies to be a concert pianist in the future, and who knows, something more. I was 8 years old and in that moment I learned the meaning of the word “panic”. The worst thing was that my dad told me that if I decided to continue playing piano, he could buy me a grand piano. I thought that I really loved piano, but what if I was not talented? What If I was bad? What If I was the worst piano playing in the world? So I say instantly “no”… and that is my ugly and sad story. If you ask me that if I would like to pursue my studies of piano, today, I would say no for two reasons: first, I don’t have time and second, only look a piano, everywhere, I become sad.
For personal interest I would like to learn to perform miracles with rollers… I think that is the only kind of urban deport that really likes me. But, first I should buy me rollers hahaha. I promise that when I have enough money, I buy them.

Now, in this moment of my life I really would like to learn or to make a course of “fast read”. I think that it really could help me with my studies.

Hi everyone !

Today I’m gonna talk to you about many topics of my career and how I decided to study Anthropology. Well, I was studying Pharmacy when I had a vocational crisis and I left everything in Santiago to come back to Vallenar to think about my life, what I want to be and what kind of life could makes me happy. So, ruling out careers, I find Anthropology, a professional that can contribute to the society in many different ways. I instantly like Physics Anthropology that can contribute through research and investigations of the human culture with a biological look. I like so much science but not to be a scientific in 100%; I like the human content of this career.
My experience in this career to choice a favourite subject, but I like wake up in the morning of Tuesday to go to the University to an interesting class of Anthropology I. It is a subject that teach about many different ways to do Anthropology, and teach you to be an useful professional to the society, through the objectivity, the respect to the other and his consideration in opposition to his annihilation, different methods and methodologies that you have to put on practice, etcetera (basics tools that an Anthropologist have to cope for his work in the future). I really like this career and I hope to be a good Anthropologist, in the future.
